John Ed Boyington, Jr
President and CEO, Vertex Aerospace LLC
John “Ed” Boyington was named President and CEO of the newly formed Vertex Aerospace in June 2018. Prior to that, he most recently served as President of L-3 Vertex Aerospace from 2015 to 2018, where he was responsible for the successful execution of a complex portfolio of aviation programs with global reach across a broad customer base. Ed has held multiple senior leadership positions at L-3, including President of L-3 Vertex Aerospace, Waco Site Executive, Senior Vice President of Federal Programs, and President of L-3 Flight International. Outside of L-3 and Vertex, he also served as Vice President and General Manager at DRS Technologies in Herndon, VA from 2009 to 2013, and President and CEO at Galaxy Technologies from 2013-2015. Retiring as a U.S. Navy Rear Admiral, Ed held numerous leadership roles throughout his military career, including positions at Naval Air Systems Command, NATO, Navy Region South, and Mine Warfare Command. He is a rated Army helicopter pilot, a dual rated Naval Aviator, and Experimental Test Pilot with over 8,500 hours in 92 different aircraft, including over 600 armed combat missions. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of West Florida, a Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School, and a Master of Science in National Resource Management from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Ed is a graduate of the Naval Test Pilot School, DSMC Program Manager and Sr. Executive Program Managers courses, a UWF Distinguished Alumni, and a Department of Defense Designated Level 3 Acquisition Professional.
Sr. Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, Finance
Robert “Bob” Sill is the Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Vertex Aerospace. He arrived at Vertex in 2016, and is an accomplished aviation and aerospace executive possessing over 30 years of financial operations experience in defense, commercial and international business environments. Prior to joining Vertex Aerospace, Bob held key financial leadership roles with GKN Aerospace, Hawker Beechcraft Corporation, Cessna Aircraft, and Honeywell Aerospace. He has vast experience in both private equity and publicly traded environments. Bob earned an MBA from Northern Arizona University and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from The Master’s University in Santa Clarita, CA. He is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and Six Sigma Green Belt from Honeywell and Raytheon.
Sr. Vice President and General Manager, Aircraft Integration & Sustainment
Brian Anderson is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Vertex Aerospace’s Aircraft Integration & Sustainment business line. His business line provides aircraft structures, major airframe assemblies, and military aircraft modifications for leading prime contractors and original equipment manufacturers. Brian began his 31-year aerospace career in accounting with Vertex and its predecessor companies. He previously served as Vice President of Business Operations at L-3 Vertex Aerospace, in executive positions in business development at IAP Worldwide Services and DRS Technologies, and was the President of Tenax Aerospace. Brian is a trained Six Sigma Expert and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Sr. Vice President and General Manager, Aerospace Defense Services
Richard “Vinny” Caputo is Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Company’s Aerospace Defense Services business line. He is responsible for providing aviation services and customer support to Department of Defense, Other Government Agencies, and commercial customers. He previously served at L-3 Vertex Aerospace as Senior Director of Aviation Field Maintenance at the Army Sustainment Division based in Huntsville, AL. Vinny retired from the U.S. Marine Corps. as a combat veteran with the rank of Colonel after 24 years of service in command and operational positions. He earned his Naval Aviator Wings in 1988 and amassed over 3,600 flight hours, including 700 in combat. Vinny holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Rhode Island College and master’s degrees in Strategic Studies and Military Operational Art and Science.
Sr. Vice President, Business Development & Strategy
Don Davis is the Senior Vice President of Business Development and Strategy at Vertex Aerospace. He previously served as Vice President of Business Development at L-3 Vertex Aerospace. Don began his career in the U.S. Marine Corps., where he served over 25 years in various aviation roles, including Helicopter Mechanic, Crew Chief and Aircraft Maintenance Officer. After his retirement in 2001, Don joined The Boeing Company as a Business Development Manager, and later held the roles of Senior Manager of Business Development and Strategy and an executive position in the Director Maintenance Modifications & Upgrades Division Business Development team at Naval Integrated Logistics in Saint Louis, MO. Don joined the DRS in 2010 as Vice President of Operations for the Aviation Division, Sustainment, and Modernization in Elizabeth City, NC. Don holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.
Sr. Vice President, General Counsel
Jeremy Nance is the Senior Vice President, General Counsel for Vertex Aerospace. In addition to serving as counsel to the Company’s senior leadership, he also serves as the Company’s Corporate Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer. Jeremy began his career at L-3 in 2006 as an attorney and served in positions of increasing responsibility, including Senior Director of Legal and Contracts. Jeremy graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Economics and received his Juris Doctorate from the Baylor University School of Law. He also holds an MBA from Baylor University.
Sr. Vice President, Chief People Officer
Richard “Rick” Mendoza is the Vertex Aerospace People Operations Leader and is responsible for the tactical execution and strategic direction of all aspects of the Human Resources, Security, Communications, Payroll, Labor Relations, and Learning & Development functions. He joined the Vertex team in 2016. Prior to joining Vertex, he served various senior level positions, including Director of Human Resources and Senior Manager of HR for Platform Integration. Rick retired from the U.S. Air Force after a 21-year career in leader roles in Forward Air Control radar operations and Air Force Recruiting Service. He’s a veteran of field assignments throughout Central, South America, & the Caribbean in support of Vice-President directed counter-narcotics missions. Rick holds the Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute.
Tom K. Miller
Sr. Vice President, Vertex Aerospace Logistics
Tom “Kelly” Miller is Vertex Aerospace’s Senior Vice President of the Company’s Vertex Aerospace Logistics business line. He is responsible for the Company’s FAA Certified Repair Stations that provide worldwide turnkey logistics, Maintenance Modification Repair and Overhaul support services, and Life-Cycle cost reduction solutions for Vertex customers. Kelly brings with him significant knowledge of aviation operations with over 40 years of experience in defense, commercial, and international client program management, engineering and business development. Prior to joining Vertex, he held key leadership positions at IAP Worldwide Services and DRS Technologies. Kelly holds a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
Rick W. Schmidt, Jr.
Sr. Vice President and General Manager, Vertex Global Aerospace
Rick Schmidt is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Company’s Vertex Global Aerospace business line. He is responsible for all International aviation programs. Prior to joining Vertex, Rick served 12 years in various senior roles at L3 Technologies, including Vice President/General Manager of Logistics Solutions, Vice President of Aviation Programs, and Director of Contract Field Services Programs. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps. after a 26-year career in aviation flight and maintenance operations, which included Desert Storm and operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. His military career was filled with diverse duty assignments, including Chief of Staff of the 3D Marine Aircraft Wing in San Diego, CA. Rick is a Business graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and holds master’s degrees in Management, Theater Operations, and National Security Strategy.
Michael J. Barbee
Vice President, Army & International Programs Business Development
Michael J. Barbee serves as Vice President for Army/International Programs Business Development. He is responsible for identifying opportunities and generating business with both U.S. Army and International customers. His previous roles at Vertex include Vice President/General Manager and Director of Support Operations for Vertex’s Army Fleet Support at Fort Rucker, AL. He is a graduate of West Point’s U.S. Military Academy and served for 28 years in U.S. Army Aviation. Mike has a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy, a Masters in Military Art and Science from the Command and General Staff College, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the Air War College.
Vice President & Chief Information Officer, Information Technology
Richard Bays is the Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Vertex’s Information Technology department. He is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of all IT functions across Vertex Aerospace to meet the organization’s goals and drive initiatives relative to building strategies for growth, efficiency, stability, and risk management. Richard formerly served as the Vice President of IT for OmniSYS out of Dallas, Texas. He also served 10 years in the Texas Army National Guard. Richard has been in the IT industry for 25 years, of which included a focus on design, implementation, compliance, project management, and leadership of enterprise-wide technology solutions. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science from Texas A&M and a Master of Business Administration in Information Technology Management from the Florida Institute of Technology.
Vice President & General Manager AIS, Warner Robbins
Marian Fraley is the Vice President and General Manager for Vertex Aerospace’s Aircraft Integration & Sustainment Warner Robins, GA location. She is responsible for division performance, profit and loss, program execution, and new business growth. Previously, Marian held the position of Director of Business Development at Warner Robbins, where she was responsible for oversight of all domestic and international opportunities. Marian retired from 33 years of Civil Service with the U.S. Air Force in 2012, bringing with her specialized experience in logistics, program management, fleet sustainment, and resource management. Upon retirement, she served as a consultant on several Government and industry advisory panels before joining Vertex. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Logistics Systems, and a Master of Science in Administration and Logistics Management from Georgia College and Georgia State University, respectively.
Vice President, Business Development Operations
Dennis Mirabile is Vice President of Business Development Operations at Vertex Aerospace. He manages the Proposal Development Center and the Business Development Management Team in support of the Company’s global maintenance and supply chain activities. He joined the Vertex team in 1994 and has held multiple senior level roles, including Senior Director of Capture Management, Contract Field Services (CFS) General Manager, CFS Director of Operations, and CFS Senior Program Manager. Prior to joining the Vertex team, Dennis served in the U.S. Army and later the Alabama National Guard. He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in International Business with a minor in German.
Vice President, Contracts & Global Trade Compliance
Nydia Rosado is the Vice President of Contracts and Global Trade Compliance at Vertex Aerospace. She joined the Vertex team in May 2016 and brings with her over 30 years of experience in defense, commercial, and international contracting. Nydia served 20 years in the U. S. Air Force and focused on acquisitions throughout the majority of her career. Following her retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel, she joined the defense industry as the senior manager for logistics at Rockwell Collins in Richardson, TX, followed by contracts director positions at BAE Systems in Wayne, NJ, and Nashua, NH. Nydia holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez and a Master of Business Administration, with a concentration in Aviation, from Embry Riddle University.
Vice President, Quality, EH&S, Ethics, & Risk Management
Pete Vozzo is Vertex Aerospace’s Vice President of Quality, EH&S, Ethics, and Risk Management. He joined Vertex in 2005 as a Risk Manager and has since served in various leadership roles in Operations, Human Resources, Ethics, and Quality Assurance. Prior to joining Vertex, Pete spent 12 years in Risk Management, Loss Control, and Chemical Process Safety Management at the Mississippi Chemical Corporation. He also served in the U.S. Army for 11 years, where he earned the Parachutist’s and Recruiter’s badges and Aviator’s wings. Pete holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from West Point’s U.S. Military Academy, an MBA from Mississippi College, and he maintains an FAA commercial/ instrument pilot certificate for fixed wing (MEL & SEL), rotary wing, and glider aircraft.
